LabSosio is a sociological research center dedicated to advancing sociology as an empirical social science and supporting the development of innovative Indonesian social policies aimed at fostering a more equitable and democratic society undergoing transformation.
Originally established in 1987, LabSosio was formally inaugurated on August 12, 2009, by the Rector of Universitas Indonesia through Rector’s Decree No. 992/SK/R/UI/2009 concerning the establishment of institutional units within the university. LabSosio was founded as a platform for sociological research closely integrated with academic teaching activities. Through this synergy, sociologists engage both empirically and theoretically with the complexities of social change in a society navigating the challenges of democratic transition.
Since 2018, LabSosio has been part of the Institute for Social and Political Research and Development (LPPSP-FISIP UI) under the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. Over the years, LabSosio has built strong partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders—including local, regional, and national planning agencies, civil society organizations, private sectors, and international donor/development agencies. These collaborations are guided by a shared commitment to promoting greater social justice, inclusive prosperity, and democratic social, political, and cultural development.

Research Cluster is formally recogsined group of researchers whose research expertise is applied either to a common area, field, or theme, or who are involved in collaborative research project, or set of related projects.
